Barrow-upon-Humber racer Martyn Bell is hoping to build on his first top ten finish of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season as the series heads to Donington Park on 15 July for the sixth round of the year.

After a difficult start to his second season in the BTCC, the Team AllAboutProperty.com driver finally saw his luck change for the better last time out at Oulton Park when he brought his BMW 320i home to a tenth place finish in the final race of the weekend - thereby scoring his first outright point of the season in the process.

Now Martyn heads to his home circuit on the calendar in buoyant mood and will hope to try and improve on his Donington Park performance last season, when he battled his way into the top ten despite suffering damaged steering following contact with one of his rivals.

Martyn will also hope to benefit from a new gearbox and a new drive train in the BMW for the Donington weekend, which should bring to an end the drive shaft issues that have plagued the first half of the campaign.

"Donington is my favourite circuit on the calendar after Oulton Park and it's also my local track - so I'm hoping for a lot of support," he said. "There is nothing like going down the Craner Curves when all the horns are sounding and the crowd are cheering.

"I'm confident we can score some points again and I just need to get my head round qualifying a bit more as that's what has let me down this year. Maybe it's a mental thing so I'll spend some quiet time with my iPod to get my head ready and then try and get on the back of someone to get a quick lap so that we are where we should be on the grid. Hopefully the qualifying curse will end!

"We learnt a lot in the wet at Oulton Park and are a lot more confident that we can perform in both the wet and the dry. The car can do it, I can do it and I'm going to go out there and drive the wheels of it for our supporters. I want to make sure I run with the pack and get three solid finishes from the weekend - hopefully inside the top ten. We've done it once this year and we want to do it again."
